Emergency Fund for Seafarers Relaunched

February 15, 2013

The Seafarers Emergency Fund (SEF) has just been re-launched. The SEF is a fund available to provide immediate, essential aid to seafarers and the families of seafarers, who are directly involved in sudden and unforeseen crises.

Welfare organisations can apply to this fund to enable them to purchase goods and/or services to relieve the need(s) brought on by such crises. Each application will be considered in confidence, on its own merits, by a panel of Advisors. The funds for the SEF are provided by the International Transport Workers Federation Seafarers Trust and The TK Foundation and it is now administered by the International Seafarers Assistance Network (ISAN) and the International Committee on Seafarers' Welfare (ICSW).

In the past the rules and guidelines for applying for a SEF grant meant that the process was not easy and that, as a result, it often took a long time to deal with applications.

The rules and guidelines for the SEF have now been radically changed to make the application process much easier so that seafarers, or their families, who find themselves in trouble can be assisted quickly and easily. For more details go to here.
