ICSW to hold seminar on MLC 28 November 2012

What is it about?

The Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) has finally been ratified in August and will be implemented in August 2013. Thirty two governments have now signed up to it. Shipping companies, unions, governments, and welfare organisations have under a year to prepare for the convention to come into force. The seminar will look at what organisations should be doing and how they can work together to ensure that the convention can be used to effectively enhance the welfare of seafarers worldwide.
The International Committee on Seafarers' Welfare, an international NGO backed by the International Shipping Federation, International Transport Workers Federation, and the International Christian Maritime Association, is organising a half day seminar on the MLC at the Baltic Exchange, London.


Speakers include : Torbjorn Husby, Norwegian Maritime Directorate, David Dearsley,ISAN, Dr Suresh Idnani, Seafarers Welfare Association India, Canon Ken Peters, Mission to Seafarers, Tim Springett, British Chamber of Shipping, and Charles Boyle, Nautilus International.

Who should attend?

The seminar is aimed at senior personnel involved in seafarers' welfare in shipping companies, manning agents, government maritime departments, and seafarer welfare organisations.

The seminar is being held on Wednesday 28 November 2012 at the Baltic Exchange, 38 St Mary Axe, London, EC3A 8BH from 9.30am to 2pm (lunch included)
The cost is £45 per person (shipping companies, government organisations, manning agents) or £25 per person for seafarer welfare organisations & NGO's.
