On 24 December 2019, ISWAN’s Regional Representative in Nigeria, Afusat Eke, joined members of the National Seafarers’ Welfare Board of Nigeria (NSWB) to celebrate Christmas with seafarers on their vessels at Apapa Port.
On 24 December 2019, ISWAN’s Regional Representative in Nigeria, Afusat Eke, joined members of the National Seafarers’ Welfare Board of Nigeria (NSWB) to celebrate Christmas with seafarers on their vessels at Apapa Port.
Two days later on 26 December, Afusat, members of the NSWB and Reverend Aduroja from The Mission to Seafarers visited seafarers currently being held at Ikoyi Prison. The group provided the seafarers with food, drinks and toiletries as well as spiritual support, and encouraged the seafarers to keep hope alive.
ISWAN and the NSWB provide welfare services to seafarers calling at ports in Nigeria, as well as their families. These services include psychotherapy sessions, counselling, prison and ship visiting, port chaplaincy and a free bus for shopping and sightseeing during shore leave.
