Seafarers Awareness Week (25 June-1 July) is the annual campaign coordinated by Seafarers UK – the leading charity in the UK for seafarers in need – to raise awareness of Britain’s dependence on seafarers.
Seafarers UK gives grants of £2.5 million annually to more than 75 charities and organisations that help seafarers and their dependants, across the Merchant Navy, Fishing Fleets, Royal Navy and Royal Marines.
With the support of those beneficiaries, Seafarers UK promotes Seafarers Awareness Week to the British public, highlighting:
- 95% of total UK trade is carried by ship
- more than half of our food is imported and over 90% of this comes by sea
- We rely on seafarers to keep our ‘island nation’ afloat
