Psychological Wellbeing at Sea

Seafarers can limit the risks of working at sea and keep fit, healthy and happy by taking care of their wellbeing.

Psychological wellbeing is about being well psychologically, which means that we can function well, we feel generally good about ourselves and about life, we feel a sense of life satisfaction, a sense of purpose and a sense that our lives are on the right track. Psychological wellbeing is beneficial for our overall health and can even mean that we live longer.

This self-help guide aims to explain what positive mental health and psychological wellbeing are, help seafarers to recognise the risks to wellbeing that they may face, and provide some practical ideas about how seafarers can maximise their psychological wellbeing.
